Wilmslow solicitor Hilary Meredith will be continuing her campaign for surviving veterans of the Gulf War at the House of Commons this month - and is calling on Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and MP for Tatton, George Osborne to join the campaign.
Hilary will be speaking at The Royal British Legion's parliamentary event and will call on the Government to award to those surviving veterans of the Gulf War an ex gratia payment to fulfil their duty of care.
Explained Hilary - who helped to set up The Royal British Legion Solicitors Group in 1989 and has been its secretary ever since:
"After the Gulf War in 1992 and the huge numbers of personnel returning with, to date, unexplained illness the Royal British Legion set up the Gulf War Parliamentary Group to campaign for better health care, treatment and understanding of this illness.
"Called Gulf War Syndrome by the press, this tag has stuck for years but in fact there was never a syndrome in the true sense of the word but rather a number of extremely worrying conditions resulting from service in the gulf.
"We are absolutely committed to campaigning on behalf of this well deserving group and are again calling for the MOD to consider an ex gratia award to all those suffering as many were medically discharged and living on meagre benefits and a war pension."
