Hilary Meredith-Beckham takes a trip down memory lane…
We opened our doors in Wilmslow 20 years ago today - just the 3 of us, myself, my PA and my mother answering the phones with a makeshift reception.
I had no idea what we would become but knew that our passion and determination in fighting for justice for service personnel, veterans and their families was too important for us to worry about ourselves.
We ran everything on a shoestring but just kept winning landmark cases. Some of those cases I will never forget. We battled against the odds in David and Goliath fights, assisting thousands of families to find out the truth. We were determined to find out what happened and to bring closure and peace to the families.
Over the years, we’ve worked with thousands of injured service personnel, putting in place rehabilitation, adapted houses, care regimes, buddy systems and restoring quality of life.
And yet there is so much more to do.
The current policy of “asking for permission to settle cases” from someone “on high” is failing our armed forces and the taxpayer. Legal cases rightly brought are taking years to settle on the basis the Government Legal Department is “saving “ taxpayers’ money. Legal costs are racking up when settlement conferences are cancelled at the 11th hour. It Is an insult to those who have served our country so bravely. So, as Hilary Meredith Solicitors marks its 20th anniversary today, we are more determined than ever to continue our work and deliver justice for service personnel, veterans and their families.
